Position Summary
The Project Architect is a licensed architect competent in all conventional aspects of architectural practice with an emphasis on the technical implementation of the project design. Performs work requiring independent judgment and critical thinking. Adapts firm and practice standards to project requirements and possesses a diverse working knowledge of related disciplines.
The Project Architect is responsible for leading the development of contract documents and, as such, provides supervision and guidance for the project team.
Additional Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain the project work plan for development of contracted deliverables with input from the Project Manager.
Monitor the progress, coordination, and quality of all documents including consultant's work. Review changes and corrections with team members.
Lead the research efforts for each project, establishing which requirements and codes must be met to comply with authorities having jurisdiction for each project.
Maintain continuous flow of critical information with the Project Manager.
Assist in monitoring the performance of the support staff and provide assessment to Project Manager.
Assist staff in development of industry knowledge and architectural skills.
Engage in learning about relevant new codes, technologies, and materials.
Attend kick-off meetings. Verify site-specific requirements and understand project criteria, design intent, scope of work and client expectations.
Continuously review the development of the Contract Documents.
Lead the development of project detailing required to convey design intent.
Obtain supervisory approval on proposed project plans prior to issuance.
Prepare and submit documents for agency review. Review and coordinate agency comments, make corrections and resubmit for permit clearance.
Prepare and issue bid documents. Respond to contractor questions during the bid process. Revise plans and issue addenda if required.
Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and revise plans for issuance, as required by the construction administration terms of the project contract.
Implement and adhere to the policies of the company's Employee Manual.
Accountable To
Project Architects report to a Project Manager or a Studio Director.
Qualifications
Architectural licensure in a state where office is located required.
Bachelor's degree in architecture from an accredited program preferred.
8 or more years of experience in architectural practice preferred.
Extensive knowledge of architectural detailing, current construction standards, and associated building trade collaboration processes (design-build, design-assist, etc.).
Extensive experience in translating architectural concept design into contract documents, including specification coordination.
Extensive knowledge of agency review processes, and ability to successfully complete the entitlement and permitting process with minimal aid and supervision.
Extensive knowledge of construction contract administration processes preferred.
Has the ability to lead communication efforts with client and development team.
Proficiency in AutoCAD/REVIT and other business software and their application to contract documents.
